Zimbabwean gems from State diamond mining entity, the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), will now be sold through an electronic trading system to improve efficiency in line with international best practice. Speaking at the launch of the electronic trading system which was developed by ZCDC and handed over to the State minerals marketing arm, the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ), Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando said the system was a big step towards getting real value for Zimbabwean diamonds. The online system will allow for the participation of international buyers who cannot physically attend an auction but would want to participate as well as do away with an excessive human interface which breeds corruption.

Government has urged small-scale miners to register their operations to enable planning and coordination so that they have full access to resources and services that will effectively boost their operations. The remainder is encouraged to register and be known to enable planning and coordination so that they can access resources and services from Government to boost output for the nation as a whole to benefit from the precious mineral,” he said.
